Former resident of Hayden, CO, Viola H. Hansen, age 97, passed away in her hometown of Ortonville, MN, on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 with her children at her side.
Viola Helen Van Hout was born Nov. 18, 1916 and as a young women she worked at the Corner Café where she met and fell in love with the local “butcher boy” George (Jiggs) Verheul. They were married on July 7, 1940. They had 5 children together and in 1957 bought a farm on Big Stone Lake. In 1971, her Beloved “Jiggs” passed away, and a year later remarried H.V. Hansen with whom she spent 14 happy years until his passing in 1986. Vi then moved to Hayden to be near her Daughter Sally, and her 2 Grandsons Jordan and Joshua Giessinger. She spent 11 happy years nurturing her Grandkids and helping her daughter plant many trees and flowers in Hayden. She spent every Wednesday playing Bridge with the local “girls” and was a joy to all who knew her. She was a very giving, caring and gracious Christian woman, helping anyone she could that was in need.
Vi is survived by her Children Richard (Rita) Verheul, Donald (Carolyn) Verheul, and Sue (Dan) Hanratty, all of Ortonville; Thomas (Ruth) Verheul of Dubois, WY, and Sally (Jim) Tyler of Hayden, CO; 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, Sisters Gladys Van Stralen, Georgette Giessinger, and Dorothy Prasnicki, and Diane Kvidera and many nieces and nephews.
