Suzanne Ascher passed away peacefully on July 10, 2014, after a short illness. Suzanne was born August 26, 1960 in Lexington, Massachusetts to Helen and Bill O’Brien. She was their fifth child and the only girl, joining brothers Bill, Dan, Jim and Kevin. Suzanne and her family spent most of her formative years in Mountain Lakes, NJ where she made many lifelong friends. After graduating from Mountain Lakes High School in 1978 and attending one year of college in Massachusetts, she spent a summer working in Mesa Verde where she fell in love with the west. In the fall of 1980 she and a few New Jersey friends moved to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado where Suzanne moved in next door to a young man named Jim Ascher. After finishing college and spending a couple of years on the Front Range, Jim and Suzanne were married with much celebration on the deck of the Steamboat Athletic Club on August 11, 1985. They made their home in Steamboat where they welcomed daughter Kelly in 1987 and son Tim in 1989. The young Ascher family loved to be active, and most weekends were spent camping or skiing. Suzanne participated in many Steamboat Running Series races as well as other races around the state. She was also a fixture in the stands or on the sidelines of the many athletic pursuits of her children. She loved camping and road tripping around the west, spending time on the lake, and enjoying the shade of a palapa on a Mexican beach.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her mother Helen, her father Bill, and her brother Kevin. She is survived by her husband Jim, her children Kelly and Tim, her brothers Bill, Dan and Jim, her beloved stepmother Sally, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
