Dixie was born in Bakersfield California, to Harvey and Grace Purkiser. In 1974 she met and married James "Jim" Soots. Jim had a daughter, Cherie, who at the time was 9 years old and quickly attached herself to Dixie and Dixie then adopted Cherie as her own daughter, creating a family that never was. In 1975 they moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Dixie met Dorothy Whither who owned The Dorothy Shop, the only dress shop in Steamboat Springs at the time! Dixie worked to clothe the woman of Steamboat in style. After the death of Dorothy, Dixie went to work for Routt County VNA as a clerk and recorder. In September 1995 Dixie started working for Routt County Social Services as their secretary. After 10 years with Social services, Dixie retired in 2005 to enjoy life with her husband and grandkids.
Dixie enjoyed basking in the sunshine, shopping, and her most precious joy were her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jim Soots, daughter, Cherie Blomquist (Scott) of Craig, Colorado, grandson; Austin Blomquist (serving in USAF), granddaughter; Miranda Blomquist (University of Wyoming), Brother; Bill Purkiser (Diane) of Bakersfield, California, Niece; Michele Helms, Nephew; Kirk Purkiser, of Bakersfield, California, and numerous friends.
She was loved by many and will be missed by all!
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
