Levi Hampton died peacefully in his sleep at the Doak Walker House at Casey's Pond on August 17, 2014. He was diagnosed with a rare recurring malignant brain tumor in May 2000 and with dignity and determination this remarkable man fought bravely for 14 years to live an independent and fulfilling life.
Levi was born in San Manuel, Arizona on May 5, 1972 and lived there until age 7 when his family moved to West Irian Jaya, Indonesia in 1979. His family then moved to Carbondale, Colorado in 1984 and relocated to Routt County in 1988. He graduated from Soroco High School in 1990, attended the Colorado School of Mines and from 1996-2010 worked at Twenty Mile Coal Company.
Levi was a world traveler by the time he was 10 and continued to travel after his diagnosis throughout the United States and Canada on his treasured Harley Davidson motorcycle. He vacationed in Ireland in 2006, and made several trips to various islands in the Caribbean from 2004-2011.
He is survived by his parents Jody and Marcia Hampton of Steamboat Springs; his sister Robin (Danny) David of Steamboat Springs; his three beloved nephews, Preston David, Maxwell David, and Owen David; His grandmother Ida McGee of St. David, AZ.; his much-loved longtime companion Sue Novak; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Oklahoma and Texas, and many lifelong friends who will always treasure his memory.
