Obituary for Mary Pearl Mercado

Leadville resident, Pearl Mary Mercado, died on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Western Hills Health Care in Lakewood, CO. She was 79.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sat., July 18, 2015, at the Oak Creek Cemetery.
Pearl Mary Mercado was born the daughter of Ventura & Josephine (Esparza) Borroel on April 19, 1936 in Haybro, Colorado. She spent her childhood in Haybro and graduated from Oak Creek High School.
On April 10, 1960, Pearl married Salvador “Bonnie” Mercado in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. To this union, three children were born. The couple moved to Leadville, Colorado, where they would raise their family and enjoy retirement. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year.
Pearl found employment as a head housekeeper for many years in Vail, Colorado. More importantly, she was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. In her spare time, Pearl enjoyed crafting, painting, embroidery, playing bingo, gambling and was an avid reader. She also loved cooking for her family, spending time outdoors and going on camping trips.
Pearl is survived by her husband, Sal “Bonnie” Mercado of Leadville; one daughter, Peggy (Ty) Wilson of Craig; two sons, Steve Mercado of Leadville and David (Tammy) Mercado of Florence, CO; two brothers, Salvador Borroel of Arvada, CO and Manuel Borroel of Oak Creek; and three sisters: Esther Martinez of Oceanside, CA, Alberta (Bill) Early of Mantica, CA, and Ellie (Norv) Loftus of Tucson, AZ. Pearl is further survived by four grandchildren: Matthew Mercado, Stacy (Chad) Cown, Bryce Ponikvar and Racine Arnold; two step-grandchildren, Justin & Stephanie Alvidrez; three great-grandchildren: Addison, Gabe and Carson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.
