Paula Robinson, age 73, died peacefully at home in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on Sunday morning, October 18, in the presence of her lov¬ing husband, Mark C. Robin¬son. For her final two months she had been receiving compas¬sionate hospice care provided by Northwest Colorado VNA, until incurable cancer ended her joyful life. Paula is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Mark, son Gregory T. Bowne, of Somerville, MA, and 2 brothers: Edward C. Meyer of Arlington, VA and James A. Meyer of Saint Marys, PA.
Paula, the youngest of 5 children, was born and raised in the small town of Saint Marys by a loving family. She loved and admired her par¬ents, brothers and sister, and an incredible extended fam¬ily throughout her life. Though slowly-progressing Alzheimer’s disease impaired her short-term memory and ability to fully function, she never lost touch with her hometown and those she so loved. She also loved her life and many friends in Steam¬boat, where she and Mark came to live in February, 2001, just months after Mark had accepted an early retirement.
Paula attended one year at Georgetown School of Nurs¬ing in Washington, DC, before being incorrectly diagnosed with a condition that doctors at the time told her would not allow her to be active on her feet as would be required in a nursing career. She subsequent¬ly changed her focus to train and become both a medical secretary and medical assistant, working from 1963 to 1971 for United Airlines in Washing¬ton, DC, and later in Rochester, NY, to where she had moved in 1971. She met her future hus¬band, Mark, in 1975; they mar¬ried on August 27, 1977, in Fairport, NY, where they raised her son, Greg (from a previous marriage) and lived and loved until moving to Steamboat Springs in 2001.
Paula was an active person with great vitality and endless joy for everything life offered. She loved people, enjoyed children, and easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to travel, finding beauty in nature everywhere be it desert, plains or mountains - especially the mountains. She always took time to enjoy flowers, rocks, snow, clouds and sunsets. She enjoyed music and singing, swimming, camping, hiking, parties, and especially loved skiing, her favorite winter activity. Most of all she loved her friends and family.
Paula was remembered and honored at a Mass of Resurrection at Holy Name Catholic Church of Steamboat Springs on October 23, 2015, and will be laid to her final resting place in her hometown of Saint Marys, PA, with a memorial service to be held there on July 2, 2016.
Paula will be forever missed but remembered by so many. Memorial gifts may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, ALZ.org.
