Douglas Delano Scott
1954 - 2016
Douglas Delano Scott, 61, passed away from complications of bladder cancer on August 11, 2016, in Boulder, CO. Doug was born on November 30, 1954 in Steamboat Springs, CO, to Delano Edward and Doris Ruth Scott. On May 23, 1981, Doug was married to the love of his life, Sally Woods Scott, in his hometown of Steamboat Springs. Doug and Sally shared their life together with their three boys in Boulder for over 35 years. Doug is survived by his wife Sally, his sons Andrew Chase, Jonathan Barrett, and Delano Donald, and his two sisters Susan Lynn Hoffner (Scott) and Lori Ann Menk (Tom). Doug was preceded in death by his parents Delano and Doris, and his daughter Ann Magee. After growing up in Steamboat, Doug graduated from the University of Colorado in 1977 with a degree in Economics, followed by a law degree from Boston College in 1980. Doug then spent a year as a clerk for a Federal Judge in Denver before joining the Denver law firm Rothgerber, Johnson & Lyons, where he became a partner after four years. Doug spent nearly 20 years with the firm until 2000, when he went out on his own as an entrepreneur and real estate developer, a career he continued to enjoy until his passing. Doug was an avid outdoorsman, running multiple marathons, skiing in Steamboat, ranching in North Park, bow hunting, and hiking the trails of Boulder. Doug was guided in life through his strong Christian faith. Doug was an active member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Boulder, serving as Church President for over ten years. A Memorial Service for Doug will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 3485 Stanford Court, Boulder, Colorado 80305 at 2pm on Friday August 19, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial gifts be given to Kids to Kids ministry, a ministry providing education for impoverished children in the Philippines that Doug was deeply involved in.
