Obituary for L. Glenn Barber

L. Glenn Barber, 86, died on December 23, 2016 surrounded by his family in Loveland, Colorado. Glenn was born to Lyle and Fern (Bartholomew) Barber on January 22, 1930 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Glenn graduated from Steamboat Springs High School and attended Colorado State University. He returned to Steamboat Springs to the family ranch in Deer Park.
Glenn married Patricia Marie Rocke on September 2, 1951 in LaJunta, Colorado. The couple had four children, Debbie, Susan, Richard, and Sheryl. After Pat passed away in 1969, Glenn married Mary Bowden Foster on October 9, 1971 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Glenn was a lifelong rancher and custom hay operator in the Yampa Valley. Glenn was a master irrigator and enjoyed starting each spring irrigating with a shovel and a canvas. In 1982 Glenn went to work at the Hayden Power Plant, retiring in 1995. Glenn was a founding and active member of Routt Powder Riders and provided countless hours of trail grooming services to the club. He was a member of the Masons. Glenn and Mary were avid admirers of the sand hill cranes that returned and nested on their place each year. Glenn was well known in the Steamboat Springs community and surrounding counties as he never met a stranger.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Fern Barber; his first wife, Patricia; sister, Shirley Nay; nephew, Larry Nay; and son-in-law, Dan Dorsey.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Mary of Loveland; children, Debbie Dorsey, Excelsior Springs, MO, Susan (Steve) Shirley, Fort Collins, Richard (Megan) Barber, Laramie, WY, Sheryl Seal, Greeley, Alan (Jean) Foster, Arvada, Ron Foster, Rapid City, SD, and Sherri (Clay) Stok, Steamboat Springs. Grandchildren, Delbert (Shannon) Bostock, Christina (Chris) Kent, Sara and Aaron Foster, Kaleb Seal, Karissa (Johnny) Korgan, Katelyn and Koltyn Barber and great-grandchildren, Michael and Lorren Bostock, Aiden Kent, Ryland, Relie, and Raylynn Korgan. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jerry Nay and nieces, Terry Ann Jacobs, Sherry Lynn Nay, and Sharon Nay.
A celebration of Glenn’s life will be held Saturday, May 20 at Sharon’s Restaurant, 2851 Riverside Plaza, Steamboat Springs from 1:00-4:00. Graveside services with Masonic rights will be held at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery at 10:00 am on Sunday, May 21. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com.
